Holy Communion

Holy Communion may be received only by Roman Catholics in the state of sanctifying grace. Non-Catholics and those who do not accept the Traditional teachings of the Catholic Church in matters of Faith and Morals are not to receive Communion at Mass.

Communion Fast

A three hour fast is recommended before receiving Holy Communion, although a one hour fast is presently binding under Church Law. Those who can fast from midnight for morning Mass are encouraged to do so.

How to Receive Holy Communion

Kneel at the rail, following the other communicants. As the priest comes toward you, close your eyes, extend your tongue, and remain perfectly still. Do not say Amen. The priest will place the Host on your tongue (never touching your tongue with his hand) and then you may withdraw to your pew. As you go, allow the Host to soften slightly in your mouth and then swallow It, without breaking It in your mouth or chewing It. The Real Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ remains within you for approximately fifteen minutes. Make a good act of thanksgiving after Mass, thanking Our Lord for coming to you and sanctifying your soul in such a sublime way.
